Tanmen Town

Tanmen Town is located along the eastern coast of Qionghai City, Hainan Province, covering an administrative area of 89.5 square kilometers with a population of approximately 29,000 people. It governs 14 village committees and 220 villager groups. The fishermen of Tanmen are the only unique group in world history to have continuously developed the southwestern South China Sea islands. The people of Tanmen regard Huangyan Island as ancestral land, and defending Huangyan Island is not only an honor but also a defense of their tradition. On April 8, 2013, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Tanmen Town in Qionghai City, Hainan Province, boarded fishing vessel Qiong-Qionghai 09045, and had a cordial conversation with the fishermen.
