Located in the central park at the South Gate of Qionghai City, the statue was unveiled on August 1, 1985. Carved from granite, it faces south and stands 3.7 meters tall, with a total height of 6.8 meters including the base. The base is paved with stone slabs, hexagonal in shape, surrounded by stone railings, and covers an area of 40 square meters. Behind the statue is a garden with flower beds. The memorial statue of the Red Detachment of Women vividly portrays the heroic spirit of the female Red Army soldiers of that generation—sturdy women in straw sandals and bamboo hats, battle-worn yet resolute. On the front of the statue’s base is a gold-lettered inscription: “Red Detachment of Women.” The back of the base bears the following text: “The Red Detachment of Women refers to the Special Task Company of the Women’s Army of the Second Independent Division of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.” It was established on May 1, 1931, in the revolutionary base area of the Fourth District of Luehui County. Under the leadership of the Qiongya Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, they excelled in protecting leadership organs, mobilizing and educating the masses, and fought alongside main forces in battles. They fearlessly sacrificed themselves and valiantly fought the enemy in ambushes at Shamailing, the fire attack on the Wenshi watchtower, the capture of the Yangjiang stronghold, and the defensive battle at Ma’anling, making remarkable contributions to the revolution in Qiongya. They stand as a symbol of the women’s liberation movement, an honor to the people of Hainan, and their revolutionary spirit lives on forever!” In 1990, the People’s Government of Hainan Province designated the Red Detachment of Women statue as a key protected revolutionary memorial building.
