Boao Lotus Mound

The Lotus Mound is located in the middle of the Wanquan River. Legend has it that long ago, a dragon turtle stirred up trouble here, bringing disaster to the local people. Upon hearing the news, Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy) stepped onto a lotus and rushed over from the South Sea. After seventy-two rounds of magical combat with the dragon turtle, she finally subdued it and forbade it from causing any more trouble. She then removed her lotus throne and rode away on the turtle. The discarded lotus throne is what we now call the Lotus Mound.
