Beihai Garden Expo Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Beihai Garden Expo Park is located east of Nanzhu Avenue and north of Yintan Avenue in Beihai City, Guangxi. It was the venue for the 4th Guangxi Garden Expo in 2014 and forms a core part of the city’s green heart. The park consists of one main and two auxiliary zones, covering a total area of approximately 298 hectares, and is designated as urban planning green space. The Garden Expo planned to develop outdoor exhibition gardens (including city garden exhibits from Guangxi’s prefecture-level cities, ASEAN countries’ garden exhibits, exhibitions by master landscape architects, and corporate-sponsored gardens), indoor exhibition gardens (showcasing landscape design works, new plant varieties, flowers, potted plants, flower arrangements, calligraphy, photography, and stone appreciation), as well as various garden and horticulture-related events.

Beihai Garden Expo Park is a comprehensive eco-tourism destination themed “Sea of Flowers, Silk Road, Green by the Pearl City,” highlighting the historical development of Beihai and its coastal cultural characteristics. It integrates an expo site park, horticultural displays, eco-recreation, folk experience, and specialty industry bases. The park mainly features attractions such as “Bronze Phoenix Greets Guests,” “Impressions of Beihai,” “Prosperity at the Helm,” “Sea of Flowers, Silk Road,” “Joyful Coastline,” “Folk Style Water Street,” “Flower Harbor and Fish Bay,” “Main Exhibition Halls,” and “City Gardens.”

The spatial layout of Beihai Garden Expo Park follows a “one axis, three rings” design, symbolizing the city’s three phases of opening-up from the Han Dynasty to modern times. It emphasizes showcasing a “Tech-savvy Beihai,” “Culturally Rich Beihai,” and “Eco-friendly Beihai,” promoting the city’s openness, enriching the connotation of its status as a “Historic and Cultural City,” and highlighting Beihai’s charm as an “Eco-livable City.” The Garden Expo Park serves as Beihai’s new tourism highlight and an important window for presenting the city’s image.

The core exhibition area of Beihai Garden Expo Park covers 75.7 hectares, the artificial wetland spans 116.3 hectares, and the national coastal wetland park occupies 106.5 hectares. Construction began on July 18, 2013, and the park opened in early May 2014. The entire site will feature “one corridor and eight zones,” where the “one corridor” is the waterside greenway, and the “eight zones” include the Mangrove Wetland Park, National Coastal Wetland Park, Garden Expo Park, Luo Han Guan Cang (a podocarpus plantation base), Green Field Leisure (outdoor sports and recreation area), Cui Yuan Liu Fang (the First Botanical Garden), Qian Mo Ying Xiu (ecological agricultural park), and Bai Guo Piao Xiang (tropical fruit plantation base).

Beihai Garden Expo Park will create a landscape comprising “one core, one belt, one axis, six zones, and six points.” The “core” is the Shell and Pearl Plaza, the central square and highlight of the park, abstractly designed in the shape of shells and pearls to showcase the distinctive culture of a coastal city. The “belt” refers to the ecological wetland landscape formed by the intersection of the park’s artificial ecological wetland and the national coastal wetland park, highlighting the characteristics of a coastal garden city.

Beihai Garden Expo Park aims to create a comprehensive, permanent urban park that combines garden art display and appreciation, leisure and entertainment for residents, and sightseeing and vacation for tourists. After the event, the outdoor exhibition areas will be retained as permanent park green spaces, while the main exhibition hall will serve as a venue for large-scale cultural activities. To facilitate visitor parking, two parking lots will be built around the park.
