Introduction The Yingluo Mangrove Forest is located on both the eastern and western sides of the Shatian Peninsula in the southeastern part of Hepu County, 115 kilometers from downtown Beihai. It has a total coastline of 50 kilometers and covers an area of 80 square kilometers. The Yingluo Mangrove Reserve enjoys abundant sunlight and heat, with low levels of seawater pollution. The area is home to 12 species of mangrove plants, including Rhizophora stylosa, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, and Aegiceras corniculatum, featuring China’s extremely rare pure stands of Rhizophora stylosa, which are highly precious. The tall and straight Bruguiera gymnorrhiza forests are also unique along the Guangxi coast. In addition, the intertidal waters among the mangroves are inhabited by various marine creatures such as fiddler crabs and snapping shrimp. This is a habitat for the nationally first-class protected animal dugong (commonly known as the mermaid), as well as many seabirds such as egrets. Fun fact: Mangroves are a unique type of woody plant community found along tropical and subtropical coasts, mostly distributed on mudflats. Their growth and development depend on the periodic rise and fall of seawater. The intertwined root systems and viviparous seedlings in mangroves not only help preserve the soil but are also highly scenic. Transportation The mangrove scenic area is 115 kilometers from downtown Beihai. 1. You can take an express bus from Beihai Bus Terminal to Hepu (5 RMB), then transfer to a bus heading to Shankou Town (12 RMB), and finally take a motorcycle taxi to the mangroves (2 RMB). 2. Self-driving visitors can drive along the Hepu–Shankou Expressway. 3. Taking a taxi from downtown Beihai to the mangroves takes about 3 hours round trip, with a fare of approximately 300 RMB.
