Xiam遗址

Xiam Site

The Xiam Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuncheng City.

The Xiam Site is located around the natural village of Xiam in Digou Village, Puzhang Township, Yuanqu County. According to the Second National Cultural Relics Survey, the site covers an area of 70,000 square meters. Excavations in 2000 uncovered remains such as house foundations, ash pits, pottery kilns, burials, and urn burials. It belongs to the Miaodigou culture type of the Neolithic Age. In 2004, five complete painted pottery artifacts used for ritual purposes were unearthed here. The current site area has been repurposed as a relocation village. During the Third National Cultural Relics Survey, fragments of clay red pottery with string patterns, including a basin rim and a bowl rim, were collected from the primary cultural layer north of the village. In 2004, it was designated as one of the first municipal-level cultural relic protection units by the Yuncheng Municipal Government.
