Yulin Yanshi Mountain

is a Guangxi provincial-level scenic area, located at Shigongwan Ferry on the Nanliu River in Bobai County, 30 kilometers from the county town. The scenic area centers around Yanshi Mountain, with Yanshi Temple as its main attraction, covering an area of 24 square kilometers. It is a typical Danxia landform landscape.

A natural stone bridge connects to the cliff above, stretching 100 meters in length, with a span of 60 meters, a height of over 30 meters, and a thickness of 10 meters, known as the “Heavenly Immortal Bridge.” The scenic area features continuous mountain ranges with undulating peaks and lush greenery, presenting a vivid and colorful array of formations: Horse-Riding Stone resembles a shepherd boy riding a horse, 0 Mountain looks like a thousand-year-old divine turtle gazing up at the blue sky, Elephant Trunk Mountain stretches out its trunk to drink from the river, Beauty Offering Flowers is amusingly charming, and Golden Rooster Announcing Dawn Mountain is strikingly lifelike.

Beneath the cliffs to the south of Yanshi Mountain lie two caves, “Cave Heaven” and “Cave Earth.” Lush green trees surround the caves all year round, while the interiors remain warm in winter, cool in summer, impervious to wind and rain, creating a natural retreat for rest and recuperation.

In 865 AD, Gao Pian, a Tang Dynasty military governor, led troops on a southern campaign by imperial order. Passing through this area, he enshrined Buddha statues in both “Cave Heaven” and “Cave Earth,” subsequently establishing Yanshi Temple and Jingmo Hall. These sites have a history of over 1,100 years. Yanshi Temple has produced eminent monks throughout the dynasties and enjoys a far-reaching reputation.
