Yan Shi Temple Scenic Area

Yan Shi Temple Scenic Area is located in Shiping Village, Dungu Town, in the southwestern part of Bobai County, about 30 kilometers from the county seat. Situated at an altitude of over 300 meters, the scenic area spans 24 square kilometers, with the emerald-green Nanliu River flowing through it. Centered around Yan Shi Mountain and highlighted by Yan Shi Temple, the area boasts a history of over 1,100 years. The mountain features a flat and expansive summit with steep, vertical cliffs. Legend has it that deities once held a feast on the mountaintop, hence the name “Yan Shi” (Feast Stone) Mountain. The mountain is composed of purple sandstone and purple soil, and there are pools on it that hold water all year round. The scenic area is lush with rolling green hills and vividly shaped rock formations — such as Maqi Rock, which resembles a shepherd boy riding a horse; the legendary thousand-year-old turtle on the mountain stretching its head to welcome spring; an elephant-shaped rock extending its trunk to drink from the river; the charming “Beauty Offering Flowers”; the lifelike Tiger Head Mountain; and the vividly crafted Golden Rooster Announcing Dawn Mountain, all of which carry a touch of mystique. The area offers fantastic rock caves, beautiful stone formations, clear river waters, and enchanting scenery, along with a mild climate and fascinating myths and legends. Over the years, it has attracted countless travelers and poets who came to explore, compose poetry, and write couplets. With a rich cultural history and documented contributions from notable figures, it remains a popular destination teeming with visitors. In April 1995, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government designated the three cliff carvings from the Sui Dynasty within Yan Shi Mountain Scenic Area as provincial-level key cultural relics under protection. Later in August of the same year, the regional government approved the area as a provincial-level scenic spot.
