Thousand Cranes Island is located in the Xiaojing Reservoir of the Hepu Reservoir Area in Jiangning Town, western Bobai County, Yulin City, Guangxi, over 70 kilometers from the county seat. It earned its name due to the thousands of cranes (actually egrets) that inhabit the island. The island is situated on Lufengpo in Jiangning Town, Bobai County, Guangxi, more than 40 kilometers from Bobai County. In the 1950s, due to the construction of the Hepu Reservoir, this area became part of the reservoir, with many hills turning into small islands. The ecological environment of Thousand Cranes Island has been well preserved, allowing egrets to breed here. Over time, the number of egrets increased significantly, creating the magnificent sight of thousands of cranes, making it a famous attraction in Bobai. A rural fourth-grade road leads to the island from Jiangning Town. It is a natural scenic tourism area for crane watching, fish tasting, and lake cruising. The island is home year-round to egrets and herons, with their numbers reaching 50,000 to 60,000 during spring, summer, and autumn. The population has gradually expanded to surrounding islands, making it the largest egret habitat in Guangxi and known as a pioneer of the fourth-generation zoo.

The island covers an area of about 2 square kilometers, covered with lush trees, intertwined green branches, and vibrant leaves, filled with birdsong and floral fragrance. The surrounding waters are vast, with rippling blue waves. Flocks of egrets and herons gather here to build nests and breed. During the day, egrets fly and call out, while the lake sparkles. Tens of thousands of egrets take to the sky, chasing and dancing in flocks stretching up to one or two hundred meters. It's common to witness the spectacular view of “when they fly, they blot out clouds and moon; when they land, no lakeside grass is seen.” The area around the island is the largest cage fish farming base in Bobai County, rich in aquatic resources, known for grass carp, mud carp, catfish, and tilapia. Boating on the lake allows you to enjoy the boundless waters and scenery of the Xiaojing Reservoir, as well as the endless fun of being with the birds and watching fishermen at work. The surroundings of the island are all water source forest reserves, featuring good vegetation, fresh air, and no industrial pollution.
