Zigzag Bridge

The Jian River meanders gently through countless mountains and valleys. Upon reaching the eastern part of Debao County, it forms a large whirlpool, giving rise to numerous islets. In 1981, this natural landscape was utilized to construct a 300-meter winding corridor bridge, a 30-meter iron suspension bridge, and three stone arch bridges, connecting over ten sandbars and small islets into one cohesive area. Lining the walkways are palm trees, willows, ficus microcarpa, acacia, spotted bamboo, and kapok—distinctive southern garden tree species. Among the small islets are pavilions such as the Bili Pavilion, while standing on the river is a statue depicting Zhen Jie, a character from local folklore, catching shrimp. Here, the water remains rippling year-round, surrounded by lush bamboo, shading banyan trees, and perching birds. Strolling here, one forgets the hustle and bustle of the city and delights in the forest springs before their eyes. When opened to visitors in 1982, Luo Libin, then Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, composed a couplet: “The clear waters of the Jian River nurture virtue; the fragrant hills and historic sites preserve civilization.”
