Ganhe Cottage

Ganhe Cottage is located in Shangliu Village, Fengwu Township. It was built with self-raised funds by the ancestors of Huang Junchang during the late Qing Dynasty and has been repaired many times over the years, yet still largely maintains its original appearance. The building is a two-story brick-and-wood structure. The first floor has a ground surface paved with small blue bricks arranged in a mat-like fashion, while the second floor is floored with wooden planks. Each of the first and second floors is divided into two rooms on the left and right, making a total of eight rooms. The residence faces south and is ten meters wide with three bays, and ten meters deep with three bays, covering a construction area of approximately 100 square meters. The house stands 7.5 meters tall, and its walls feature the “gold-wrapped-iron” architectural style. The central and side bays are separated by walls, and the front and rear halls are divided by wooden screens.　

The wooden screen in the main hall on the first floor is 1.9 meters high and 1.7 meters wide, with a door on each side leading to the rear hall. At the center of the screen is a raised, gold-plated character “寿” (longevity), flanked at the bottom left and right by relief carvings of totems such as flowers, birds, fish, and insects, and topped with a horizontal scroll for a couplet. The totems are flanked by couplets. The totems and couplets are crafted using relief and round carving techniques, all gilded.　

The main hall and rear hall on the second floor are dedicated to memorial plaques. In front of the plaques, there is a U-shaped railing made of intricately carved wooden lattice. Both the left and right rooms on the first and second floors have carved windows at the front and rear. The roof is covered with small blue tiles, featuring horse-hoof eaves, with bricks used to weigh down the edges.　

The structure has solid walls and an intact framework. Its long history gives it significant historical value for the study of architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties in Pingguo County.
