The Ancient Battlefield of the Taiping Rebellion

Located in the area around Dua'ao Mountain at the border between Luoxiu Town and Zhongping Town in Xiangzhou County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is about 102 kilometers from Liuzhou City. Historically known as the "Battle of Dua'ao Mountain," it is one of the most famous early battles of the Taiping Rebellion. This is where the Renyi River and the Longgong River converge, with Dua'ao Mountain standing alone between the two rivers. On May 21, 1851, Hong Xiuquan led over ten thousand Taiping troops northward to Zhongping. In early June, Qing deputy commander Ulan Tai led four thousand Guizhou soldiers from Luoxiu to station at Dua'ao Mountain. On the evening of June 7, Taiping troops sent seven brave soldiers across the river to harass the Qing army. Caught off guard, the Qing soldiers turned on each other, and the Taiping forces decisively defeated the Qing army in the Renyi River area. Today, Dua'ao Mountain still preserves the ruins of artillery positions, Dua'ao Temple, a pagoda, as well as poetry, couplets, and mural paintings.
