Introduction 　

　 Cangwu County is located in eastern Guangxi, at the confluence of the Xun and Gui rivers, surrounding the central city of Wuzhou in eastern Guangxi. Known as “the water gateway of Guangxi,” it is embraced by the Five Mountain Ranges of the Yao people and gathers waters from three rivers. The county administers 17 towns and 243 administrative villages, covering a land area of 4,273 square kilometers. At the end of 2001, the total population was 665,000, with 30,000 hectares of cultivated land and 340,000 hectares of forested land.

In the third year of the Kaihuang era of the Sui Dynasty (583 AD), Guangxin County was renamed Cangwu County. In the same year, Ningxin County was abolished and merged into Cangwu County. In the nineteenth year, Suicheng County was renamed Rongcheng County.

Cangwu County enjoys a mild climate. The county has a total forest stock of 9.45 million cubic meters, with a forest coverage rate of 74.3%, making it one of China’s national model counties for science-based forestry development and one of the eight major resin-producing counties. There are 107 rivers of various sizes within the county, covering a catchment area of 4,000 square kilometers. The developable hydropower resources amount to 156,000 kilowatts, with current installed generating capacity at 21,000 kilowatts, earning it recognition as a nationally designated preliminary electrification county. Notable attractions in southeastern Guangxi include the Shuangdao Ethnic Culture Tourism Area, the Former Residence of Li Jishen, and the Yue Dong Guild Hall. Local specialties such as “Gufeng Lychee,” “Shatou Late-Ripening Lychee,” “Dao Shui Early-Ripening Shatian Pomelo,” and the world-renowned “Liubao Tea” are celebrated both near and far.
