"Dragon Eye Well" in Zicun

The "Dragon Eye Well" in Zicun consists of two ancient wells that have stood for hundreds of years. They are located in front of the main gate of Huifeng Temple in the village. The two wells are about 40 meters apart from each other, with identical shapes and sizes — both are enclosed by stones, measure 1.3 meters square, and have well openings around 1.5 meters deep. For hundreds of years, the water from the "Dragon Eye Well" has nurtured generations of Zicun residents like sweet mother’s milk, and also served as a free “herbal tea stall,” greatly facilitating passersby who needed to quench their thirst. A proverb from those times says: “The water of Dragon Eye Well is sweet and pure, drinking it gives you strength and uplifts your spirit.”

In ancient times, next to the wells was the Huifeng Temple, which also functioned as a school and was known as the "Huifeng School." When Li Jishen was six years old, he studied there for two years. Sometimes when he felt listless in class, Li would suddenly run out of the classroom, scoop up some water from the "Dragon Eye Well," drink a few mouthfuls, splash his face with it, and then return to class feeling refreshed. It is said that those who drink this well water enjoy long lives. Although the villagers now have running water, they still retain a deep emotional attachment to the "Dragon Eye Well." On every lunar "March 3rd," "July 7th," or during the temple’s “Two-Fire Festival,” families will carry a load of water from the "Dragon Eye Well" back home to cook rice or boil water, believing it brings good fortune.
