Cai Zi Pond

Cai Zi Pond is located in the southern urban area. Legend has it that it was the pond where Cai Lun, a figure from the Eastern Han Dynasty, soaked and washed hemp heads, rags, and tree bark to make paper. The pond covers an area of about 200,000 square meters, with its perimeter built from hemp-patterned strip stones. In the middle of the pond, a stone bridge runs east-west, dividing the pond into northern and southern sections. On clear, moonlit nights, when strolling leisurely on the stone bridge and lingering by the stone pavilion, one can see the reflection of the moon in both the northern and southern ponds, hence earning the beautiful name “Twin Moons over Cai Zi Pond.” To the south of the pond are the Temple of Marquis Cai and the Precious Tripod. It has now been developed into the Cai Lun Memorial Park. The park combines cultural relics and historic sites with recreational and cultural facilities, making it a popular destination for activities, relaxation, and a base for patriotic education.
