Inventors' Square

Inventors' Square is located at the foot of Shizi Ridge on West Lake Road in Leiyang City. Designed by the Changsha Architectural Design Institute, the square covers a planned area of 340 acres. It consists of the East Square, the West Square (Municipal Square), and the Cai Lun Commercial Pedestrian Street. The Inventors' Square was invested in and constructed by the Leiyang Economic Development Zone, with a total investment of 60 million yuan. Its development and preparation began in January 2001, and it was completed and put into use on September 5, 2001, with an 8-month construction period.

The East Square highlights the themes of advocating science and inheriting civilization. It features a large 14.7-meter-tall bronze statue of Cai Lun, as well as bronze and marble statues of 31 other renowned inventors from ancient and modern times, both in China and abroad, including Yuan Longping, Huang Daopo, Morton, Newton, Edison, and Nobel. Four large relief columns and a relief wall depicting the processes of the Four Great Inventions of ancient China showcase the achievements of ancient inventors such as Einthoven, Lettredge, Faraday, Franklin, Da Vinci, Li Bing, Lu Ban, Hua Tuo, and Zhang Heng, as well as the brilliance of ancient civilizations. Strolling through the square, visitors can immerse themselves in a scientific atmosphere and enjoy an educational experience. The West Square is mainly dedicated to municipal offices and garden landscaping. Colorful fountains, sound systems, and lighting are integrated throughout the square, forming an overall layout where sculptures serve as focal points, greenery as expanses, and beautification as the surface. The southern and northern areas of the square are planned as commercial pedestrian streets, covering a total area of 62,000 square meters. The eastern area is designated for a large-scale commercial and trade center, with plans to construct modern landmark buildings such as hotels and theaters, making the square a multifunctional civic cultural space for tourism, leisure, entertainment, and more.
