Liuting Ridge

Liuting Ridge is located in the center of Shaoyang City and is also known as Liuling or the ancient Liuting Ridge. The scenic area consists of six small hills: Tianchi, Tieju, Wangxian, Liuyi, Bajiao, and Lutou. The pavilions bear inscriptions personally written by Emperor Lizong of the Song Dynasty, reading “A Panoramic View of Rivers and Mountains” and “Marvelous Scenery in Misty Rain.” At the foot of Tieju Hill, there used to be Taiping Temple; halfway up Tianchi Hill, there is a spring; and behind Lutou Ridge, there is Baihe Taoist Temple, with the Yanhe Pool below. The Six Ridges were once home to famous scenic spots such as “Embroidered Valley Vista,” “Cold Blue Snow,” “Chu Outlook Woodland,” and “Moon Pond Apricot Ridge.” In 1927, the Six Ridges were developed into Zhongshan Park.

In 1938, to commemorate soldiers who died in the War of Resistance, people from all walks of life in Shaoyang built the “Monument to Soldiers Fallen in the War of Resistance” here.
