Shijiang Wu’an Palace

Shijiang Wu’an Palace is a cultural relic protection unit of Hunan Province.

Shijiang Wu’an Palace, located in the urban center of Shijiang Town, Dongkou County, sits on the southern bank of the Pingxi River. Also known as Zhonglie Temple, Wu’an Palace was first built during the Ming Dynasty and underwent two major restorations in the 34th year of the Kangxi reign (1695) and the 16th year of the Guangxu reign (1890) of the Qing Dynasty. In December 1935, the Sixth Red Army Corps of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army passed through Shijiang during the Long March and stayed at Wu’an Palace, where they carried out revolutionary activities such as resisting Japan and Chiang Kai-shek, fighting evil, and aiding the poor. From 2000 to 2004, local residents and organizations in Shijiang Town spontaneously raised nearly 600,000 yuan to urgently repair the Guan Sheng Hall and the South Yue Hall of Wu’an Palace, and rebuilt the memorial archway, theater stage, and left and right wing rooms on their original sites. In 2012, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.

Shijiang Town: Located in the eastern part of Dongkou County, Shijiang Town governs 52 villages, 3 neighborhood committees, 721 villager groups, 27 resident groups, and 23,312 households. The town has a total population of 84,748, including 65,925 agricultural residents and a labor force of 53,380. It covers a total area of 146.78 square kilometers, with arable land totaling 52,257 mu, of which 39,965 mu are paddy fields.

Shijiang Town boasts abundant produce, with major agricultural and sideline products including rice, hybrid corn, citrus fruits, and livestock such as hogs.
