Honglian Lake

Honglian Lake is situated in Miaoling Town, Huarong District, Ezhou City. In January 1993, the Hubei Honglian Lake Tourism Resort (formerly Overseas Chinese Town) was established, and a master plan was drawn up. On January 8, 1994, the provincial government agreed to establish the provincial-level Honglian Lake Tourism Resort, with a planned area of 24 square kilometers and an initial development zone of 5 square kilometers. The government also authorized the Ezhou Municipal Government to form a resort management committee responsible for the development and construction of the resort. The establishment of the resort expanded Hubei Province’s channels for attracting foreign investment and filled a gap in the province’s tourism resort offerings.

The main body of water at the Honglian Lake Resort is Honglian Lake, which covers an area of approximately 5.5 square kilometers. During the high-water season each year, the lake water flows through Changgang and Yadian Lake into Xuejiagou, eventually joining the Yangtze River.

The water level of Honglian Lake is artificially regulated, and the water quality is pristine. According to water quality monitoring reports, it is potable. The resort area has abundant underground water sources, with natural springs flowing to the surface nearby. Analysis according to the GB33383 Grade II standard shows that it meets the hygiene standards for drinking water. The resort enjoys a typical mountain village climate, with no air or noise pollution, mild temperatures, ample rainfall, and long hours of sunshine. Based on observational data from the city meteorological station over the past five years, the area has an average annual temperature of 17°C, with an average temperature of 29.4°C in the hottest month (July), 4.4°C in the coldest month (January), and an average annual rainfall of 1,270 mm. The resort is an ideal destination for travel and leisure all year round.

A visit here is truly worthwhile. The Honglian Lake Golf Course, one of the first golf courses approved in Hubei Province, covers an area of over 680 acres and currently has nine holes completed. Lush green fairways blend with the surrounding hills and lake, while white golf balls fly alongside gulls and egrets. Teeing off here is both a fashion statement and a pleasure. Additionally, visitors can go boating and lotus picking on the lake, explore Lover’s Island and the ecological garden, admire the scenery of the lake and mountains, villas, and ancient honey locust trees, or try fishing and weaving on a wooden loom to experience the life of a fisherman or weaver. Especially in golden October, visiting for travel, leisure, savoring Honglian Jade Liquid wine, crabs, and Wuchang fish is an endless delight.

Emerging Hubei has chosen Honglian Lake, and farsighted investors have set their sights on it. The construction period for the Honglian Lake Tourism Resort spans 15 years, with a total investment of 15 billion RMB. It is planned to develop seven functional zones: entertainment, residential and villa, ancient city sightseeing, sports activities, rehabilitation and convalescence, high-tech botanical, and reserved areas. The goal is to eventually create a top-tier national tourism resort integrating leisure travel, home retreats, commerce and finance, science and culture, sports, and rehabilitation.

Based on the total population of residents and migrants in cities around Honglian Lake, as well as the pace of economic development and tourism growth, the plan aims to receive 200,000 domestic and international tourists annually in the near term (2002), and 4 million annual visitors in the long term (2010), including 400,000 international tourists. The international market will primarily target Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia, with Europe and America as secondary markets.

The tourism resort has two entrances, located near the northwest and northeast of the lake by the Wuhan Elevated Bridge on the Shanghai–Chengdu Expressway. A resort management office has been constructed in the northwest area.

With the continuous development of China’s tourism industry, Ezhou’s ongoing efforts to become an outstanding tourism city, and the gradual implementation of the long-term plans for the Honglian Lake Resort, this scenic gem of Honglian Lake will surely shine even more brilliantly and radiantly.

Miaoling Town: Located in the western part of Ezhou City, Miaoling Town borders the major central city of Wuhan in Central China.
