The Martyrs' Shrine of Peng Chufan is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hubei Province and a classic destination on the Red Tourism route.

Martyrs' Shrine of Peng Chufan

Located in Group 11, Liangting Village, Huarong Town, Huarong District, Ezhou City. In 1912, to commemorate Peng Chufan—one of the “Three Martyrs” of the Wuchang Uprising during the Xinhai Revolution—the Vice President of the Provisional Government of the Republic of China and Commander-in-Chief of the Hubei Army, Li Yuanhong, allocated funds to build the shrine. The original structure was destroyed, and the current shrine was reconstructed in 1972 as a two-story building with a brick-concrete structure, covering a construction area of 600 square meters. The shrine is an important relic of the culture of the Xinhai Uprising. (Fifth Batch)

Peng Chufan (1884–1911), originally named Tanfan or Jiadong, with the courtesy name Qingyun, was a native of the eastern gate area of Ezhou. He later moved to Liangting Village in Huarong. In his childhood, Peng studied at a private school, focusing on classical texts and history, and in his youth, he was already capable of expressing his lofty aspirations through poetry and prose. At the age of 20, while teaching at a private school near his hometown at Guangfu Temple, he read progressive publications such as *Meng Hui Tou* (Turn Around) and *Ge Ming Jun* (The Revolutionary Army), which influenced his thinking. In the summer of 1906, when Wan Tingxian, artillery commander of the Hubei New Army, returned to his hometown to recruit soldiers, Peng decided to join the military. After enlisting, he became acquainted with democratic activists such as Zhang Nanshan and Liu Jing’an, and soon joined the revolutionary organization "Ri Zhi Hui" (Society for Daily Knowledge)...
