Site of the White Dragon Cave

The White Dragon Cave site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The ancient ape-man site of the White Dragon Cave is located on Shenwu Ridge in Anjia Township. A total of eight ape-man tooth fossils were excavated from the cave, along with teeth, horn, and skeletal fossils of more than 20 animal species such as giant pandas, saber-toothed elephants, and saber-toothed tigers, as well as many chipped stone tools dating back 600,000 years. Experts have determined that this site predates the Peking Man site at Zhoukoudian, and its discovery fills a gap in the excavation and study of early Paleolithic human civilization from the southern slopes of the Qinling Mountains to the northern bank of the Yangtze River.

In 2019, the White Dragon Cave site was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
