Huayang Rock

Introduction:

Huayang Rock is also one of the Thirty-Six Rocks of Wudang. Located to the east of Wulong Palace, it stands against a high cliff and faces a deep valley, forming a natural cave. The cave is 3.6 meters high and 5 meters deep, housing a Yuan Dynasty-style stone shrine and three stone steles. One of the steles features a self-portrait carving of Li Mingliang (Taoist name Haoranzi), a renowned Taoist priest of the Yuan Dynasty. This is the only known self-portrait of a Taoist priest discovered to date, and the stele also bears his self-composed poem. Li Mingliang was a prominent Taoist figure on Mount Wudang during the mid-to-late Yuan Dynasty, particularly noted for his significant contributions to the construction of Wulong Palace. This stele was erected in the fifth year of the Zhi Zheng era of the Yuan Dynasty (1345 AD), and both its images and inscriptions hold important historical and cultural research value.
