Wulong Rock

Introduction:

Wulong Rock, also known as Lingying Rock, is situated east of Wulong Peak. The stone path leading up to it is rugged, surrounded by lush vegetation. Within the rock is a natural spring. In times of drought, local mountain dwellers would come to pray here, and their prayers were said to receive immediate divine response. This was also the place where the governor of Junzhou during the Tang Dynasty prayed for rain under imperial order. Inside the rock is a remarkably well-preserved stone shrine. Historical records tell us that during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, a great drought struck the land. Yao Jian, the governor of Junzhou, came to this very spot to pray for rain, and his plea was swiftly answered. Emperor Taizong of Tang then issued an edict to construct the Five Dragons Shrine on Mount Wudang, marking the beginning of imperial involvement in building temples on the mountain. The rise of Mount Wudang’s historical and cultural significance in China owes much to Wulong Rock.
