Ancient Juncheng City is a cultural heritage site protected by Hubei Province.

Ancient Juncheng City

Located in Junxian Town, Danjiangkou City, this is a Ming Dynasty site. According to historical records, an earthen wall was built during the Eastern Han Dynasty, and further construction took place in the fifth year of the Hongwu reign (1372) during the Ming Dynasty. By the second year of the Tianqi reign (1622), the brick and stone structure was completed. The city once housed structures such as the Jingle Palace and the Temple of the City God. In the 1960s, it was submerged underwater due to the first phase of the Danjiangkou Reservoir construction. Between 2011 and 2012, underwater archaeological surveys revealed that the city ruins are roughly rectangular in shape, with the eastern wall measuring 940 meters, the southern wall 750 meters, the western wall 838 meters, and the northern wall 740 meters. The walls are 2 to 4 meters high. The site is relatively well-preserved and holds significant academic value.
