Wudang Mountain's Taichang Temple

Just a few steps beyond the Thunder God Cave, you’ll come across Taichang Temple. Compared to other palaces, temples, and shrines on Wudang Mountain, Taichang Temple feels somewhat secluded. The screen wall at the entrance is quite worn, with the dragons carved on it barely visible—whether this is intentional for preservation or simply due to age and neglect is unclear. The most precious items inside Taichang Temple are the statues of the Supreme Old Lord and the Goddess Doumu. The statue of the Supreme Old Lord is a wooden carving, gilded and painted, with a plump, serene face and a benevolent expression. The Goddess Doumu statue stands 2.36 meters tall, also a wooden and painted carving. She wears a crown and ceremonial robes, with a kind face, and has four arms on each side, holding objects such as the sun, moon, bow, and arrows.
