The Black Dragon Pool Scenic Area is located on the southeastern side of Mount Jigong, at the source of the Guangshui River, 2

2 kilometers from downtown Guangshui City, and 1

0 kilometers southwest of Wusheng Pass.

The Guangshui River originates from Nantian in Zhaigou on the southern foothills of Bald Mountain at the border of Hubei and Henan provinces, flowing through Laowuji and

Wild Boar Puddle, reaching the Nianziwan Reservoir. It meanders over ten li and is commonly known as “Dragon Stone Ridge.” The valley is deep and narrow, with a series of waterfalls from top to bottom, including Tiankou Bowl, Dragon Palace, Dragon Pool, Dragon Gate, Two Dragons Playing with a Pearl, and Songlin Bay, totaling 1

8 waterfalls, collectively known as the East Gully Waterfall Cluster.

The Black Dragon Pool Waterfall is the most spectacular in the cluster. Surrounded by steep cliffs, the opening has a diameter of only 7 meters. Looking down, it is pitch black and bottomless; looking up, the sky appears no larger than a bowl, hence also called the “Tiankou Bowl Waterfall.”

The waterfall has a drop of 3

1 meters, with cascading waters that produce mist and rainbows, and the sound of water striking the cliffs is thunderous. The valley is deep, shaded, and chilling.

The Black Dragon Pool Scenic Area is connected by a high-altitude cableway to Mount Jigong, one of China’s top ten summer resorts. Visitors to the Black Dragon Pool can take the high-altitude cableway directly to Mount Jigong, experiencing the unique travel thrill of spanning two provinces and sharing one mountain between two scenic zones.
