Xiaogan Chegai Pavilion Scenic Area

Located on the western bank of the Wo River, 15 kilometers northwest of Anlu City.

According to the Annals of Anlu County, Emperor Wen of Wei once wrote the verse “In the northwest floats a cloud, standing tall like a carriage cover,” hence the name. It is also said that Li Bai often played chess here with friends, which is why it is also called “Taibai Pavilion.”

The Hubei General Annals records: “Minister Cai Chizheng of the Ming Dynasty, during his tenure in Anzhou, composed ten quatrains about the Chegai Pavilion, which later led to a poetry-related persecution,” among other things. The pavilion is carved from stone, nearly square in floor plan, with an upper and lower section shaped like the Chinese character “工” (work). The top side is approximately 6 meters long and 1.2 meters high; the middle section is about 1 meter wide and 0.8 meters high; the base is 8 meters on each side and 2 meters high. Made of solid, sturdy stone, the structure has a uniquely elegant design. Surrounded halfway by clear blue water, it has a distinctive charm. It serves as a resting place for locals to escape heat and rain, as well as a spot for tourists to explore history and enjoy tranquility.

Take a bus from Wuhan or Xiaogan to Anlu, with direct tourist buses available to the scenic area.
