The Qianchong Ancient Ginkgo Ecological Tourism Area is located in Wangyizhen Town in the western part of Anlu City, Xiaogan, situated at the southern foot of the Dahong Mountain. It lies within a subtropical evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest zone and is home to one of China’s two remaining natural ancient ginkgo groves, earning it the title of the “Hometown of Ginkgo” in China. Nationally, there are only two major natural ancient ginkgo groves remaining—one is on Tianmushan Mountain in Zhejiang, and the other is the Qianchong Ancient Ginkgo Ecological Tourism Area in Anlu City. The ginkgo tree is honored as the “panda of the plant kingdom,” a “living fossil” for studying ancient geological changes on Earth, and a rare, precious, ancient tree species unique to China. It has been designated by the state as a second-class rare protected tree species. The Qianchong Ancient Ginkgo Ecological Tourism Area contains the largest ancient ginkgo grove in Central China, featuring 48 ancient ginkgo trees over 1,000 years old, 180 over 500 years old, and 4,370 over 100 years old. A newly developed ginkgo base spans 38,000 mu, with 2.4 million planted ginkgo trees. There are 36 scenic spots where clusters of 25 or more ancient ginkgo trees over a thousand years old can be found, along with four garden complexes: the Ginkgo King, Fairy Osmanthus, Number One Scholar Cypress, and Osmanthus Bamboo Garden. The Qianchong ancient ginkgo grove is not only rare in its large quantity and great age, but also boasts diverse tree shapes, including couple trees, lover trees, descendant trees, and mother-and-child trees, all highly valuable for sightseeing and rich in charm.

Ginkgo King

This ancient ginkgo tree is one of the “Twin Ginkgo Kings” of Anlu. Having withstood over 3,000 years of wind and rain, it remains lush and thriving, producing nearly 1,000 pounds of fruit annually, valued at over 10,000 yuan. It is truly the treasure of Qianchong Mountain and the crown jewel of the Qianchong Ancient Ginkgo Ecological Tourism Area. Locals often walk three times around this ancient tree during festivals and celebrations, praying for the protection and safety of their families from this revered “ginkgo grandmother.”
