Meichuan Reservoir Water Conservancy Scenic Area

The Meichuan Reservoir Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area.

The Wuxue Meichuan Reservoir Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located in Wuxue City, Huanggang, Hubei Province. Built around the Meichuan Reservoir project (medium-sized), it is a reservoir-type water conservancy scenic area. Construction of Meichuan Reservoir began in 1957, making it the first medium-sized reservoir constructed in Wuxue City. It has a catchment area of 25 square kilometers and a total storage capacity of 39.3513 million cubic meters.

The reservoir was once renowned for its aquaculture and fish canning industries, and received multiple accolades from the Ministry of Water Resources during the 1970s and 1980s for its advanced practices in diversified operations. In 1973, the People's Daily published an article titled "They've Managed the Reservoir to Perfection," and the history of the reservoir area was documented in a film by Changchun Film Studio.

The planned area of the scenic zone spans 25 square kilometers, including 4.6 square kilometers of water surface. It was approved as a Provincial Water Conservancy Scenic Area by our department in 2005 and designated as a Provincial Wetland Park by the Provincial Forestry Department in 2014.
