Yaoling Village is located on the banks of the Han River in the northwest of Gaoshibei Town, Qianjiang City. Two major national key projects—the Xinglong Water Control Hub on the Han River and the "Diverting Water from the Yangtze to the Han" project under the South-to-North Water Diversion Project—converge here, presenting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the village’s tourism development.

Yaoling Village enjoys superior geographical conditions. To the south are Qianjiang City proper and the Jianghan Oilfield Administration Bureau; to the west are Jingzhou and Shayang; to the east is Tianmen; and to the north is Jingmen. The surrounding area is one of the most densely populated and economically developed regions in the province, all within a two-hour drive from Yaoling Village.

The Qianjiang Municipal Government plans to build a service area for the Xinglong Water Control Hub and the "Diverting Water from the Yangtze to the Han" project scenic area in Yaoling Village. The first phase will cover an area of 1 square kilometer, including a core zone of 0.5 square kilometers.

From the Houhu exit of the Hankou-Yichang Expressway, take the road toward Shayang to reach Gaoshibei Town. The expressway connecting the town to Yaoling Village will be widened to between 30 and 60 meters, with construction set to begin this year to meet the needs of self-driving tourists.

Yaoling Village features unique landscapes. In addition to facilities of the Xinglong Water Control Hub (such as spillways, power stations, fishways, and traffic bridges), it also has the Xinglong River Metasequoia Scenic Forest Belt—the most intact and largest plain ecological forest in our province. The banks of the Han River levee are densely lined with metasequoia trees, and wide forest belts will also be established along both sides of the "Diverting Water from the Yangtze to the Han" canal. The village is crisscrossed with ditches and dense forest belts, showcasing the classic scenery of a water-town garden. In spring, rapeseed flowers blanket the land, and the excellent ecological environment attracts large numbers of egrets to nest here every year.

Yaoling Village has a rich cultural atmosphere. Efforts will be made to restore and rebuild the historic Ancestral Temple, while also leveraging Qianjiang's nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage, such as Jingzhou Flower Drum Opera and Qianjiang Folk Songs, to create a distinctive cultural brand.

Dining in Yaoling. Yaoling’s fish restaurants are already well-known in the region. Thanks to the village’s proximity to the Han River, fishermen deliver freshly caught fish directly to the village, serving them fresh at tourists’ tables. Additionally, dishes like qù wāndòu (stir-fried peas), huǒshāo bā (grilled flatbread), and ròujuǎn (meat rolls) are also highly distinctive.

According to reports, the Yaoling Village tourist area will be developed with support from the two water conservancy projects. First, a visitor reception and service center will be established. Second, the facades of local villagers’ houses will be renovated to reflect distinct regional characteristics. Third, a protective moat running north-south will be dug around the village, featuring slope protection and waterside platforms, with a bottom width of 4 meters and surface width of 10 meters. The embankment will be planted with special flowers and trees, allowing for boat tours. Fourth, a 20-meter-high observation tower will be built to provide panoramic views of the Xinglong Hub and the "Diverting Water from the Yangtze to the Han" project. Fifth, a Folk Customs Exhibition Hall of the Jianghan Plain will be constructed to showcase the region’s folk culture. Sixth, a Water Conservancy Culture Exhibition Hall will be built. Seventh, a 150,000-square-meter botanical garden will be developed, featuring various trees, flowers, and metasequoia trees. Eighth, a 7,000-square-meter Modern Agriculture Sightseeing Center will be constructed, using glass curtain walls for lighting, four-season climate control, and soilless cultivation. Ninth, a children’s playground will be established.

Officials from Gaoshibei Town stated their goal of transforming Yaoling Village into an ecologically harmonious and picturesque tourist destination that integrates water conservancy projects, folk culture, and natural scenery over the next three to five years, making it a new tourism highlight on the Jianghan Plain.

Dong Zhengwu, who has run a restaurant near Yaoling Village for four years, is also full of hope. He told reporters that once the new Yaoling tourism village is completed, he plans to tear down his small eatery and build a large restaurant specializing in Han River cuisine to welcome guests from all over. “Isn’t it a joy to have friends visit from afar?” he said, quoting Confucius to express his excitement.
