Xinglong Water Control Hub

As one of the supporting projects of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the Xinglong Water Control Hub is known as the "First Dam on the Jianghan Plain." This project is a low-head gate dam reservoir of the plain river type, with a hub axis stretching 2,835 meters — longer than that of the Three Gorges Project. There are four supporting projects under the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, including: the Xinglong Hub, the Water Diversion from the Yangtze to the Han River, the renovation of some gate stations along the middle and lower reaches of the Han River, and the partial waterway regulation project along the middle and lower reaches of the Han River. These projects have set multiple records in hydraulic engineering construction in China. The river closure on the Han River was achieved in December 2009, marking the fourth time that the Han River has been dammed in Hubei Province’s history of managing the river. The magnificent landscape of the “First Dam on the Plain” presented by the Xinglong Hub, along with the artificial canal of the Water Diversion from the Yangtze to the Han River, and the area’s pristine metasequoia forests, ancient dwellings, and rich local folk culture, make it a famous tourist attraction on the Jianghan Plain.
