Gaopo Rock Site

The Gaopo Rock Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

The Gaopo Rock Site is located on the southern terrace of Gaopo Rock Village, Longhu Town, 25 kilometers north of Xinzheng City. The existing site stretches 300 meters from north to south and 125 meters from east to west, covering an area of 37,500 square meters. The cultural layer of the site is 1–2 meters thick. Artifacts collected mainly include production tools such as stone axes, stone spades, and stone chisels. Among the pottery fragments, identifiable vessel shapes include cauldron-shaped ding, basin-shaped ding, small-mouthed pointed-bottom bottles, white-bodied brown-painted and white-bodied black-painted painted pottery bowls, high-necked jars, red pottery ding, and red pottery basins. On the cross-section of the site, house foundations have been discovered, built with white lime concretion stone through ramming. Tombs and ash pits have also been found. The cultural layer contains numerous remnants of red burned earth blocks and grass-mixed mud blocks. The Gaopo Rock Site is a settlement site primarily of the Yangshao Culture, extending into the Longshan period.

This site has rich cultural content, a thick cultural deposit, and a long time span, making it of certain value for studying the cultural features of the late Neolithic Age in the Central Plains region.

Longhu Town: Located 11 kilometers south of Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, Longhu Town is under the jurisdiction of Xinzheng, the birthplace of Xuanyuan Huangdi, the cultural ancestor and the first ancient capital of China. The town covers a total area of 96 square kilometers, situated between 34°33′–34°39′ north latitude and 113°44′ east longitude, making it the largest township in the city in terms of area. The terrain is higher in the southwest and lower in the northeast, with an average elevation of 230 meters.
