Zhenggu Chariot and Horse Pit Scenic Area

The Zhenggu Chariot and Horse Pit Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Zhenggu Chariot and Horse Pit Scenic Area is located at No. 1, South Section of Wenhua Road, Xinzheng City, Henan Province, at the southwest corner of the eastern section of the ancient capital of Zheng and Han, also known as the southern end of Wenhua Road in the urban area. It has a total planned area of 270 mu, featuring over 3,000 Spring and Autumn period tombs, 18 large and medium-sized chariot and horse pits, including nearly 180 large tombs over 6 meters deep, and 4 particularly large tombs exceeding 20 meters in both length and width.

The first phase of the project has been completed, covering an area of 54 mu. Its main components include the “Exhibition Hall of Excavated Chariot and Horse Pit No. 1,” the “Chariot and Horse Pit No. 3 Exhibition Hall,” the “Zheng Duke’s Middle-Shaped Large Tomb,” the above-ground display area of horse pits from some large and medium-sized tombs of the Zheng dukes and ministers, an observation platform, a leisure square, corridors, and landscape walls reflecting the cultural characteristics of the Eastern Zhou period. Among them, Chariot and Horse Pit No. 1 was excavated in April 2001 and contains 20 various types of luxurious and practical chariots and numerous horse bones; the tombs of the Zheng Duke and the Zheng minister are still under excavation.
