Comrade Jiao Yulu Memorial Hall

The Comrade Jiao Yulu Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

In March 1966, a temporary exhibition hall was established at Dongguan Machinery Factory in Lankao. In June 1966, the temporary exhibition hall was relocated to Lankao negotiated-price company. On May 14, 1984, the Comrade Jiao Yulu Memorial Hall was established within the Jiao Yulu Memorial Park. On May 14, 1994, a new Comrade Jiao Yulu Memorial Hall was built west of Jiao Yulu’s tomb. The memorial hall is a modern-style building with a construction area of 2,100 square meters. The front of the hall has three stories, and the plaque above the main gate inscribed with “Comrade Jiao Yulu Memorial Hall” was personally written by Comrade Jiang Zemin. The interior consists of a foyer, exhibition halls, VIP rooms, and a screening room, among other main sections. The foyer houses a half-length bronze statue of Comrade Jiao Yulu. The exhibition hall covers an area of 1,300 square meters and is divided into five sections: “A Son of the Nation,” “Taking on the Mission in Times of Crisis,” “Serving the People,” “A Model Cadre,” and “Lankao Today.” It features over 300 panels and photos, as well as more than 90 personal items, vividly showcasing Comrade Jiao Yulu’s whole life — dedicated to serving the people, working tirelessly until his last breath, and living an extraordinary yet ordinary life.

Party and state leaders have shown great concern for the development of the Jiao Yulu Memorial Park. Dozens of party and state leaders, including Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, -, -, -, -, -, and Xi Jinping, have visited the Jiao Yulu Memorial Park and written inscriptions for Comrade Jiao Yulu. In 1994, Comrade Hu Jintao, representing the CPC Central Committee, attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Comrade Jiao Yulu Memorial Hall and the unveiling of the bronze statue. The current memorial hall displays over ten inscriptions from central leaders, including Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, -, -, Song Renqiong, -, Liu Huaqing, Li Lan, and -.

Jiao Yulu (August 1922 ~ May 1964), from Beigushan Village, Boshan County, Shandong Province, was of Han ethnicity and born into a poor farming family. Due to poverty, he only attended elementary school for four years. At the age of 11, he earned money to support the family by pushing carts to transport coal with fellow villagers. By the age of 16, he had already shouldered the heavy burden of supporting his household. A life of hardship and strenuous labor forged in him from an early age a resilient and tenacious character.
