Zhulin Yangshao Culture Site

The Zhulin Yangshao Culture Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

The Zhulin Yangshao Culture Site is located on a northern earthen mound in Zhulin Village, 35 kilometers south of the county town. The cultural layer is distributed on the southern side of the top of the mound.

Excavations have uncovered the rim of a red clay pottery pot, the rim of a gray pottery jar with sand tempering, fired earth, animal bones, deer antlers, as well as early manually controlled, slow-wheel polished red and gray clay pottery fragments and polished pottery pieces, among which the exterior walls of the sand-tempered gray pottery fragments bear grooves from the manufacturing process.

The upper part of the cultural layer, about 30 centimeters thick, is a filled soil layer, the middle part consists of sandy loam soil 2 meters thick, and the lower part is the actual site. The entire mound stands about 3.5 meters above the surrounding ground. The site is divided into eastern and western sections: the eastern section is 160 meters long from north to south and 150 meters wide from east to west; the western section is 70 meters long from east to west and 60 meters wide from north to south, with a total area of 28,200 square meters. It was designated as a county-level protected cultural heritage site in 1963 and as a provincial-level one in 1986.
