The Duan Gang Longshan Culture Site

It is situated on a sand dune north of Duan Gang Village, 6 kilometers southwest of the county town, on the southern bank of Huanggang Gully. Excavated artifacts include ancient axes, stone chisels, bone daggers, as well as fragments of gray, reddish-brown, clayey, and sandy pottery such as urns, pots, jars, and plates adorned with cord, stripe, and appliqué patterns. Also found were incomplete pottery vessels, short teat-like li tripod legs, deer antlers, and animal bones—all indicative of Longshan Culture remains. In 1984, it was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit. In 1989, further excavations at the site unearthed a large number of pottery items from the Longshan, Erlitou, Shang, and Zhou periods.
