The Ancient Battlefield Site of Guotun

Category: Tourist Attractions 👁 100 views
The Ancient Battlefield Site of Guotun is located in the area around Guotun, Caizhai, Yutang, and Balimiao, approximately 35 kilometers south of the county seat. It lies 2.5 kilometers south of the Zhulin Yangshao Culture Site and 3 kilometers north of the ancient site of Yucheng, at the northern end of what is commonly known as the “Ten-Li Long Ridge.” Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, bronze weapons such as spears, halberds, swords, and arrowheads have been unearthed here, along with scattered human bones—some with bronze arrowheads lodged between them—leading to its identification as an ancient battlefield site. In 1987, more than ten small brick-chambered tombs were excavated, yielding bronze swords, halberds, and chariot ornaments. A large brick-chambered tomb was also discovered in Guotun Village, unearthing over ten precious jade artifacts including jade pigs, jade figurines, and jade bi discs, as well as a large quantity of Han Dynasty pottery. In 1984, it was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit. Since 1988, the site has suffered multiple instances of looting, resulting in the destruction of hundreds of tombs from the Spring and Autumn, Warring States, and Han periods. Protective measures have now been implemented, and restoration work has been carried out on some of the damaged relics.
