Location: Huangtugang Village, Xizhai Township, Qixian County

Li Jichun (approximately 1536–1583), courtesy name Yingyuan, was a native of Qinglonggang Village, Qixian County (now Huangtugang Village, Xizhai Township) during the Ming Dynasty. At the age of 20, he passed the imperial examination under the Jiajing Emperor’s Bingchen reign and was appointed as an envoy by the Ministry of Rites. At that time, the Ryukyu Kingdom (modern-day Okinawa Prefecture of Japan) was a tributary state of China. Its monarch, the King of Chūzan, petitioned the Ming court to send an official to confer a title. Due to the vast sea separating the two lands, frequent harassment by Japanese pirates, and treacherous travel routes, over 30 qualified envoys from the Ministry of Rites sought to avoid the mission. Deeply indignant, Li Jichun volunteered for the assignment. Xizhai Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Qixian County. Established as Xizhai Commune in 1975 and reorganized as a township in 1983. Located in the northeastern part of the county, 14 kilometers from the county seat, it covers an area of 79 square kilometers with a population of 36,000.
