Zhangjiatun Liao Tombs

The Zhangjiatun Liao Tombs are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hebei Province.

The Zhangjiatun Liao Tombs are located about 1,000 meters south of Zhangjiatun Village, Huaiancheng Town, Huai’an County, on the terraced fields along the eastern bank of Shuigoukou River, covering an area of 56.71 square meters.

The tomb was discovered on May 10, 1987, during small watershed management efforts, and was excavated on May 28 by the former Huailai City Cultural Relics Management Office. It is a single-chamber tomb with a brick-built, wood-imitating caisson ceiling, consisting of three parts: the tomb gate, passage, and main chamber. Artifacts unearthed include a set of gilt bronze belt buckles, as well as bronze hooks, ironware, pottery, and lacquerware. The tomb features a unique structure and exquisite brick carvings. In 1987, the provincial cultural relics bureau allocated funds to build a three-room shelter directly over the site for its preservation.

In July 1993, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Hebei Province.
