Yellow River Danxia Gorge Scenic Area: Located 21 kilometers north of Mianchi in Sanmenxia City along the banks of the Yellow River, at the junction of five counties across Henan and Shanxi provinces. It is a provincial-level geological park. The entire gorge is composed of red quartz sandstone, presenting a reddish-brown hue from the valley floor to the cliffs. 1.2 billion years ago, this area was once an ocean, and Danxia serves as powerful evidence of the earth’s dramatic transformation. Even today, the marks left by ancient ocean waves can still be seen on the rocks. The V-shaped gorge stretches 8 kilometers in length with widths ranging from 2 to 30 meters, and an elevation drop between 200 to 600 meters. Inside the gorge, there are bizarre rock formations, towering cliffs, ancient trees, rushing waterfalls, a constant climate, and spring-like weather all year round. From 2014 to the end of 2015, aiming for a 5A upgrade, Yellow River Danxia invested over 500 million yuan to build high-standard ecological walkways, themed trails, tourist roads, and related service facilities for Shenxian Gorge and Shaoshan Gorge. The development of Yellow River cruises was further expanded, enriching the scenic area’s content and laying the foundation for the “One River, Three Gorges” layout. Facilities such as the comprehensive service area and visitor center have been further improved. The construction of walking paths in Shenxian Gorge and the landscape renovation of riverside roads were completed, with 30 tourist sightseeing buses and coaches purchased, ensuring strong reception capacity. The tourism construction project of Yellow River Danxia Scenic Area was successfully included in the 2015 National Preferred Tourism Projects Database and is one of the 16 projects selected from Henan Province.
