Tongbai Red Leaves Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Huanggang Red Leaves Garden is located in the northeastern part of Tongbai County, 12 kilometers north of Huanggang Town and about one hour’s drive from the county seat. The scenic area features rugged rocks, undulating mountain ranges, deep valleys, and a rich diversity of wildlife. The red leaf resources cover more than 30 square kilometers, spread across continuous mountain ridges and valleys spanning dozens of miles, making it a major tourism highlight of Tongbai and earning it the reputation as the “Red Leaves Capital” of the Central Plains.

The Huanggang red leaves mainly come from the smoke tree, along with other species such as wild maple, persimmon, and tung trees, distributed at altitudes below 500 meters. In spring, they are tender yellow like goose feathers; in summer, they turn deep emerald green; and in autumn, the forest is ablaze with color—vivid red leaves spread as far as the eye can see like morning glow, interspersed with green pines, making the entire mountain range look like an exquisitely embroidered brocade, akin to a beautiful woman clad in a crimson dress, truly enchanting. Among the forest vines, there are also over 300 unique scenic spots, such as the Reclining Statue of Pangu’s Mother, Lovers’ Rock, Lion Peak, Immortal Bathing Pool, and Ancient Music Cave, all of which are delightful to behold and leave visitors lingering with no desire to leave.

Special Tips

The best time to view the red leaves is from late October to late November. During this period, the area attracts many visitors, especially on weekends, so it's advisable to arrive early.
