Xiaoliangzhuang Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall
Xiaoliangzhuang Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism attraction.
A revolutionary education base.
In 1986, the Xincai County Committee and County Government built the Xiaoliangzhuang Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall at the site where the eight revolutionary martyrs were arrested, in commemoration of the eight martyrs who lost their lives in the Xiaoliangzhuang Tragedy on July 7, 1933. The memorial hall includes an exhibition hall, a martyrs’ monument, and other structures, covering a total area of over two mu. The exhibition hall, facing south and backed by the north, is a five-room brick-concrete bungalow, 17.5 meters long, 8 meters deep, and 3.6 meters high, with a construction area of 140 square meters. It displays an introduction to the Xiaoliangzhuang Incident, a collection of comic strips about the incident, profiles of the eight martyrs, as well as the martyrs’ relics, historical documents, and materials. On either side in front of the exhibition hall are three auxiliary rooms each, with the martyrs' monument situated at the front. The monument is made of bluestone, 2 meters high, 0.6 meters wide, with a base 1.5 meters high, and features a roofed canopy, surrounded by iron railings for protection. The front of the monument is inscribed with an introduction to the Xiaoliangzhuang Incident, while the back features profiles of the martyrs who perished in Xiaoliangzhuang.
During the Second Revolutionary Civil War period, Xiaoliangzhuang in Chendian Town was the location of the Xincai County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and one of the important bases for underground activities of the party organization in Xincai. Special envoys from the Hubei-Henan-Anhui Provincial Committee resided here for extended periods, guiding the work in the four counties of Xin, Shang, Xi, and Huang. Many important meetings of the county committee were held here, and many major decisions were made on this very spot. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the revolutionary martyrs, the area within a 30-li radius centered around Xiaoliangzhuang had become a semi-public revolutionary activity zone for our Party. Within this region, most villages had grassroots party organizations and peasant association groups. Each village had Party members and peasant association members, and the Party’s guerrilla forces grew to over 300 members, with over 1,500 Red Guards. Based on this foundation, they achieved one major victory after another in the struggle against reactionaries and local landlords and gentry, writing an indelible glorious chapter in the revolutionary history of Xincai. On July 2, 1933, the Xincai County Committee held an expanded meeting here to discuss the establishment of a Soviet regime. Due to betrayal by a traitor, they were suddenly besieged by local armed forces. Eight provincial, county, and district leaders—Li Weibin, Dao Daole, Guan Shoubian, Guan Shouhuan, Guan Shoufeng, Zhang Xiulian (female), and Cao Chaowen—were all arrested. On July 7, they were executed heroically in Chendian Market. This tragic event, known as the “Xiaoliangzhuang Massacre,” shocked the provinces of Hubei, Henan, and Anhui.
The Xiaoliangzhuang Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall is located in Xiaoliangzhuang, Xielaozhuang Administrative Village, Chendian Town, 12 kilometers west of Xincai County. The Chendian–Liuxiaozhuang rural road passes through Xiaoliangzhuang. It is 4 kilometers from the Minglin Road, 12 kilometers from National Highway 106, 3 kilometers from the Zhumadian–Xincai Road, 92 kilometers from Zhumadian City, over 120 kilometers from the Chaya Mountain Scenic Area, over 110 kilometers from the Boshan Lake Scenic Area, and over 150 kilometers from the Tongshan Scenic Area.
The houses once inhabited by revolutionary martyrs such as Li Weibin have been well preserved. In 1986, the Xincai County Committee and County Government also established a revolutionary education base—the Xiaoliangzhuang Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall—in Xiaoliangzhuang, erecting the “Xiaoliangzhuang Martyrs Monument.” It receives over 20,000 visitors for education purposes each year.
