Ban'gang Site in Huai Bin County

The Ban'gang Site in Huai Bin County is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

The Ban'gang Site is located in Ban'gang Village, Wangdian Township, south of the county town, 50 meters north of Jiagou Dam. It was discovered during the 1978 cultural relics survey.

The site is a high terrace, adjacent to Ban'gang Reservoir to the north, with terrain sloping from south to north. It spans 184 meters from east to west and 162 meters from north to south, standing 2–4 meters above ground level. The cultural layer is approximately 3 meters thick as seen in cross-section, with earth of a brownish-yellow color. A red-fired soil layer has been identified in the southeastern part of the site. Artifacts collected on the surface include stone axes, stone knives, stone sickles, and fragments of pottery. The pottery fragments are mostly gray earthenware mixed with sand, and the types of vessels can be divided into ding (tripods), li (tripod cauldrons), guan (jars), bo (bowls), and wan (cups). Decorative patterns include combed patterns, corded patterns, string patterns, and appliqué patterns. This is a late Neolithic Age site. In 1982, it was designated as a key cultural relics protection unit by the county government, and a signboard with an explanatory notice was erected. In June 2006, it was announced as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit by the Henan Provincial People's Government. The site is currently well preserved.

Protected area and construction control zone of the Ban'gang Site: Starting from the edge of the entire terrace of the site, the area extends 30 meters east, west, south, and north, forming the primary protected area of the site. From the boundary of the primary protected area, the construction control zone extends an additional 30 meters in all four directions.

Ban'gang Village: Ban'gang Village is located in the southwestern part of Wangdian Township, Huai Bin County, about 20 kilometers from the county town. It borders Zhaizhai Village to the east, Zhangzhuang Township to the north, Xinhe River to the south, and Zhangyang Village to the west, featuring typical plain topography. There are two reservoirs, one in the east and one in the west, covering a water area of over 500 acres. The Xinhe River flows through the entire territory of Ban'gang, providing abundant freshwater resources. The main economic activity is agriculture, with over 4,200 acres of high-quality hybrid rice planted across the village. Secondly, migrant work is common, with most migrant workers concentrated in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions, mainly engaged in the garment processing and construction industries.
