Ancient Mound Top Site

The Ancient Mound Top Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

The Ancient Mound Top Site is located in Laoying Village, Chuzhai Village, Gucheng Township, about 15 kilometers north of the county seat. It was discovered during the 1984 cultural relics survey. The site is a raised terrace, 1–2 meters high, sloping from south to north, covering an area 140 meters long from north to south and 130 meters wide from east to west, with a cultural layer about 1.5 meters thick. The soil consists of yellow-brown clay and a small amount of fired earth. Artifacts found and collected at the site include stone axes, adzes, arrowheads, and numerous pottery fragments. The pottery fragments are mostly gray pottery mixed with sand and clay, and the vessel types can be categorized into tripods, li cauldrons, bowls, cups, jars, and dou stem-cups. The decorative patterns include cord marks, rope impressions, incised lines, and appliqué ridges. This site is a late Neolithic Age settlement. In 1982, the county government designated it as a key cultural relic protection unit at the county level, and it is currently well preserved.

Chuzhai Village: Chuzhai Village is located 2 kilometers southeast of Gucheng Township. It borders Langgan Town to the east, Laozhuang Village of the same township to the west, Dengying Village of the same township to the south, and Renzhuang Village of the same township to the north. Due to constraints from natural conditions, economic development has lagged. The village has 4 villager groups, 352 households, and 1,520 residents, with 2,080 mu of arable land. There are currently 34 poor households, comprising 102 people. The village’s two committees consist of 7 members, with 2 reserve cadres and 23 Party members.
