Former Residence of Xie Hongtao

The former residence of Xie Hongtao is a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit in Yantai.

The former residence of Xie Hongtao is located within the Naval Hospital compound on the south side of Erma Road in Zhifu District. It was built in 1930.

On May 20, 2011, the former residence of Xie Hongtao was designated as part of the fourth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Yantai.

Protected area: north to Erma Road, south to the east-west main road inside the hospital, west to the inpatient building, and east to the hospital’s main eastern gate.

Xie Hongtao (1873–1954), courtesy name Yichen, was from Xingjiazhuang Village, Zhantuan Township, Qixia County (now Qixia City). In 1904 (the 30th year of the Guangxu reign), Xie Hongtao went to Japan for study together with his wife after their marriage. The following year, he joined the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance (Tongmenghui) and became one of its core members. In November of the same year, he and his friend Qiu Jin were among the first to return to China. In Yantai, they secretly established Tongmenghui offices with Xu Jingxin (the head of the Shandong branch of the Tongmenghui) and others. In 1906 (the 32nd year of the Guangxu reign), he funded the establishment of the “Dongmou Public School” and the “Duannben Girls' School,” where revolutionary activities were carried out covertly.
