Quan Sheng Gorge in Tang County
Quan Sheng Gorge gets its name from the Grand Canyon of Quan Sheng Village. Legend has it that Qiu Chuji once practiced the Quanzhen Sect of Taoism on Qingxu Mountain and lived here, hence the village was originally called Quanzhen Village. During the Anti-Japanese War, Japanese troops came to "mop up" the area, but the Eighth Route Army defeated them and achieved victory—after which the village was renamed Quan Sheng Village. The Quan Sheng Gorge Scenic Area is located within Qijiazu Township, Tang County, Hebei Province. It is 13 kilometers from the Baihe Exit of the Beijing–Kunming Expressway and Baofu Expressway, and 15 kilometers from the Baofei Highway, situated near the entrance road of the Baofu Expressway.
The scenic area lies on the sunny side of the Qingxu Mountain, a sacred Taoist site in North China, covering an area of 10 square kilometers with elevations ranging from 180 to 1,046 meters. As a rare karst landform in North China, it boasts three unique features: first, deep valleys and gorges shrouded in towering cliffs, with abundant stalactites and year-round cool temperatures even in summer; second, a scattering of uniquely shaped caves—eighty-one in total, each distinct; third, abundant water sources and numerous waterfalls, with murmuring streams, leaping pools and cascades, often described as featuring four lakes, sixteen pools, seventy-two waterfalls, and a hundred springs. The area faces south, embraced by majestic ridges and clustered peaks, with a jade-like gorge nestled in between. The region is filled with lush pines and cypresses, blooming mountain flowers, layered springs and pools, hanging waterfalls, karst stalactites, gorges and caves, historical relics, ancient temples, and former shrines.
