The Huaban Colorful Stone Scenic Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Rongcheng Madao Huaban Colorful Stone Scenic Tourism Area is located along the southeastern coast of Weihai in Shandong Province, 30 km from the Liugong Island Scenic Tourism Area and 10 km from the Chengshantou Scenic Tourism Area. Situated at a major transportation hub, it covers an area of 600 hectares. With the nationally and internationally renowned Huaban Colorful Stone as its iconic attraction, it is organically combined with natural landscapes such as Gushan Peninsula and the ten-thousand-meter-long seaside bathing beach, as well as numerous cultural attractions, forming an outstanding resort destination along China’s northern coast.

The Huaban Colorful Stone is a rectangular sea erosion column with a total volume of 7,000 cubic meters. Geologically, it is a very typical, delicate, and unique example of marine erosion landform. It belongs to the basic volcanic rock—tuff—formed by Cambrian volcanic eruptions and is about 500 million years old. Due to its massive size, unique shape, vibrant colors, and ever-changing patterns, it has been hailed since ancient times as one of the great scenic wonders of the east, and in recent years has been celebrated as the “Number One Marvelous Stone on China’s Seas.”

The Huaban Colorful Stone is located in Lianluo Bay, Madao Town, in the northeastern part of Rongcheng City. It is approximately 35 meters long, 20 meters wide, and 9 meters high, situated more than 50 meters from the shore. It can be directly climbed during low tide, but requires a boat ride during high tide. It was listed as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Rongcheng during the Qing Dynasty’s Daoguang era.

The Huaban Colorful Stone is primarily composed of three colors: yellow, white, and brown. Upon closer inspection, its formations appear as if cast or carved, painted or embroidered, with curves and straight lines, verticals and horizontals, creating a myriad of patterns. Some resemble drifting clouds, some floating, some suspended; others resemble waves, some gently swaying in the wind, some roaring and churning; still others resemble a gathering of birds, some flying alone, some rushing in groups. Its exquisite form and unique features are truly a feast for the eyes.
