Stele on the Spirit Way of Prince Wu Mu of Tai'an, Grand Tutor of the Yuan Dynasty

Carved in the fourth year of the Yuanyou era of the Yuan Dynasty (1317). Authored, inscribed, and titled in seal script by Yao Sui, a literary figure and Grand Academician of the Hanlin Academy during the Yuan Dynasty. The reverse of the top beam is inscribed with “Stele Inscription on the Spirit Way of Prince Wu Mu of Tai'an, Grand Tutor of the Yuan Dynasty.” The stele is inscribed on both sides. The text details the achievements of three generations of the family of the Yuan statesman and honored Prince Wu Mu (posthumous title), Mangwu Boluohuan, which largely aligns with records in the History of Yuan. According to the inscription, Mangwu Boluohuan died on May 22 of the Gengzi year (1300) during the Dade era, in his residence in Lin’an, at the age of 63. He was buried on August 8 of the same year in the northwest of Tanzhou, in the Taihang Mountains. His tomb is located at the southwestern foot of Mount Tai, and the stele stands one li south of the tomb. There was a 13-year gap between his burial and the erection of the stele, leading to speculation that the stele may have been erected after his remains were relocated to Tai'an. Originally situated on Xiaochang Street, west of Tai'an City, the stele was moved to its current location in front of the Bingling Gate of Dai Temple in April 1979.
