Zhucun Cultural Tourism Area
The Zhucun Cultural Tourism Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.
The Zhucun Cultural Tourism Area is located in Caozhuang Town, Linshu County, and is a national AA-level scenic area. Zhucun sits to the west against Jishan Mountain and borders the Shu River to the east, forming a distant echo with the Daguanzhuang Water Control Project (the two sluices). To the east lies the artificially excavated Xinshu River, while to the west are the preserved dinosaur footprint fossils of Jishan Mountain. The village is crisscrossed with rivers and streams, where creeks converge, wrapped like a jade belt, forming a “nine dragons playing with a pearl” layout — hence the village’s name. Existing relics include ancient village ruins, the site of the Battle of Zhucun, and the site of the Anti-Japanese Democratic Government.
The famous Battle of Zhucun took place here. In the early hours of January 24, 1944 (Lunar New Year's Eve), over 1,000 Japanese troops stationed in Linyi secretly launched a surprise attack on Jishan District. The enemy split into three groups: one stayed in Caozhuang to search for Party members, cadres, and civilians who had not yet evacuated; one advanced southwest toward Mazhuang; and one swept southeast toward Zhucun. In this battle, more than 40 enemy and puppet troops were killed. Twenty-four soldiers from the Eighth Company sacrificed heroically, and the company commander Yan Sijia and the political commissar of the County Independent Battalion, Tie Ying, were wounded. In August 1944, at the Shandong Military Region’s Hero and Model Assembly, Political Director Xiao Hua officially proclaimed the Eighth Company as the “Steel Eighth Company.” The Battle of Zhucun was also officially recorded in the “History of Battles of the Eighth Route Army.” The Yan’an Liberation Daily reported on the battle under the headlines “Our Troops in Linshu, Coastal Area, Repel Attack by Over 1,000 Enemy Invaders” and “People in West Shu Actively Transport the Wounded and Join the Fight,” covering the battle, civilian support for the troops, political condolences to victims, and Linshu County’s efforts to become a model military-supporting county.
In July 1991, the Linshu County Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Government of Linshu County erected a memorial monument in Zhucun, which has since served as a permanent base for national defense education and patriotic education. In 2012, the now-prosperous villagers spontaneously donated over 600,000 yuan to build the Zhucun Red History Memorial Hall. A wealth of authentic relics provided by local residents and Eighth Route Army soldiers who had fought in the battle filled the exhibition rooms, making it a renowned red education base.
Zhucun is positioned around the theme of “Water Town North of the Yangtze · Millennium Zhucun,” and has planned and constructed projects such as the Zhucun Red Culture Memorial Hall, the Filial Piety Archway, the People’s Commune Cultural Courtyard, the Ancient Residential Courtyard, and the Xuanwu Lake Resort.
