Temple of Jiang Taigong

The Temple of Jiang Taigong is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a cultural heritage site.

The Temple of Jiang Taigong is located in the urban area of Linzi. Built in 1993 on the site of Jiang Taigong’s cenotaph, the temple complex covers a total area of 30,000 square meters. The Temple of Taigong is a traditional Chinese architectural ensemble characterized by axial symmetry and classic temple structures. According to legend, King Wen of Zhou sought out virtuous talents and encountered Jiang Taigong, whom he invited back to serve as his Grand Tutor, honoring him as “Taigong Wang.” When King Wu of Zhou ascended the throne, he further honored him as “Shi Shangfu.” Jiang Taigong assisted the Zhou dynasty in overthrowing the Shang dynasty and was enfeoffed in the State of Qi as the foremost contributor. As ruler of Qi, Taigong implemented policies such as “adapting to local customs, simplifying rituals, promoting commerce and craftsmanship, and facilitating the benefits of fishing and salt production,” emphasizing balanced development of agriculture, industry, and trade. These measures spurred rapid growth and prosperity in Qi. Later, Jiang Taigong also assisted the Duke of Zhou in quelling the rebellion of Wu Geng, the son of King Zhou of Shang. In recognition of Taigong’s second great service in stabilizing the Zhou rule, King Cheng of Zhou granted him the authority to “campaign east to the sea, west to the Yellow River, south to Muling, and north to Wudi,” making Qi a major power revered across the land between the sea and Mount Tai.

After Jiang Taigong’s death, according to Zhou rites, he was buried in Zhou territory. The people of Qi, missing his benevolence, buried his ceremonial robes and cap here. Passing through the main hall, you will find the cenotaph of Jiang Taigong, symbolizing the deep reverence and remembrance of the people of Qi for their founding father and the progenitor of Qi culture. The inscription on the stone archway in front of the tomb, “Tutor of Zhou, Ancestor of Qi,” succinctly encapsulates the great achievements of Jiang Taigong’s life.
